Stimming is a behavior commonly associated with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Stimming refers to self-stimulatory behaviors or repetitive movements that individuals with autism engage in. These behaviors can include hand flapping, rocking back and forth, spinning, or making repetitive sounds or vocalizations. Stimming serves different purposes for different individuals. Spinning is a form of stimming. Adam doesn’t do it as much as some other autistic kids. They can spin for a long period of time and not feel dizzy at all. Normal hand movements vs stimming. The key with Autism is the repetitive behavior or stimms. Stimming is not “bad behavior.” It isn’t something kids need to grow out of or be corrected for. For many autistic people, stimming — especially movement-based stims — is how their brain regulates, processes emotions, and feels grounded 🧠💙 This wobble disc gives him a safe, supported way to meet his sensory needs through movement — instead of forcing stillness or suppressing his body. Supporting stims means: • honoring his nervous system • respecting his way of coping • giving tools instead of
